We hope to revitalize this women's organization that seeks to develop the spiritual life of its members through Marian devotion as well as opportunities for Christian action.
Knights of Columbus
Immaculate Conception Council of the Knights is one of the most highly ranked Councils in the country. The Knights of Columbus is an international fraternal organization of Roman Catholic laymen that promotes the ideals of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
Squires of the Knights of Columbus
This is a preparatory program for the Knights for young me 11-18 who wish to experience the values and the traditions of the Knights of Columbus. The Squires provide an opportunity for young men to grow in their faith through prayer, connect with their parish and volunteer for parish and community service. They also participate in many fun and social activities.
Knights of Columbus Youth Program
The Knights of Columbus provide an opportunity for social and sports activities on Friday evenings in the Gym for boys and girls Grades 6 to 9.
Shelter for the Homeless
Beginning in the fall and ending in the spring, we staff a shelter for homeless men in the basement of our Church. The men are carefully screened by the city. In this very Christian ministry, teams (2 persons per team) serve as greeters, overnighters or cooks (at home) for a particular evening.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
This centuries old organization is dedicated to helping the poor. Besides operating a food pantry, they try to help any needy member of our neighborhood. They run a clothing drive twice a year and help other worthy causes.
Bethany Consolation Ministry
It was at Bethany that Jesus went to console Martha ad Mary over the death of their brother Lazarus. After training, members of this ministry will help grieving families to plan the funeral liturgy, be present for it to help and then write a card to the family expressing the parish’s continued concern.
St. Martha Hospitality Committee
If you have a gift for making someone feel at home, you would be perfect for this new group. This will be the committee that will be entrusted with all our parties, special occasions, etc. St. Martha opened her home to Christ. Whenever we welcome anyone into our parish, we welcome Christ.
St. Andrew Vocation Committee
Mandated by Bishop DiMarzio because of its importance, this committee will work to increase awareness of vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. They will help the staff to provide programs that may help to encourage some of our young men and women to dedicate their lives to the service of the Church.
St. Gianna Mola Respect Life Committee
St. Gianna recently was canonized by Pope John Paul II. She was a wife, mother and pediatrician who is a great pro-life example in the life of the Church. This committee will help to respect life at all stages of development from conception to natural death.
St. Thomas More Social Advocacy Group
This group will help educate the parish concerning moral issues as they affect the political process. They will also work to advocate for the needs of our parish in the wider community
Jordan Baptism Prep Teams
We are looking or couples and single parents who will help the priests of the parish in preparing families for their child’s baptism. They would work with Father at the instruction; help the families at the presentation and at the Baptism and then keep contact with them as they are integrated into our parish community.
St. Matthew Fund Raising Committee
Our Offertory collection does not cover our expenses. This new group is desperately needed to come up with new and interesting ways to raise funds to keep us going as the great parish that we are.
Young Urban Catholics
This is a multi-parish organization serving the entire Astoria/Long Island City cluster. It is a spiritual/social/education gathering of young adults aged 21 and up. They host ‘Theology on Tap’ conversations, have retreats together and gather for social events.
Happy Seniors of North West Queens
This is one of our largest ad most active organizations. If you are in your golden years, this community meets for fellowship and fun every Wednesday afternoon. Frequent trips and outings make this a great opportunity to get out of the house. There is a waiting list.
Catholic War Veterans
This national organization actually began in our parish! It was started by Msgr. Edward Higgins, the second pastor of Immaculate Conception Church. We are Post #1. Today, there are hundreds of Posts in every state and thousands of members. If you are a veteran, especially if you have just come back from Iraq or Afghanistan, please sign up and be part of the great history of our parish and our nation.
Girl Scouts
This wonderful group has been going strong for a long time. If you would like to volunteer or have a little girl who might be interested, sign up now.
Boy Scouts
If we get some adults interested in starting a troop of boy scouts, then this can become a reality in our parish. If you fit the bill or have a little boy who might be interested, sign up today.
Young Horizons
We are all agreed that we need to do more for our youth. This group will try to come up with a comprehensive approach to youth ministry. This is open to members of our parish from high school age on up.
St. Paul Media Outreach
Wanted: people with talent/interest in graphics, web work, advertising, etc. This group will be our principal outreach arm using all modern media to get the message out. They will help to spruce up our bulletin, our bulletin boards, design ads for the newspaper, take pictures, administer our web pages and handle our public relations.
Evangelization Outreach
The main project of this new effort is to come up with strategies for new and more significant attempts at outreach within our community. What are needed are people who like to come up with new ideas, people who are not afraid to think outside the box.
